The Kick-off Meeting to introduce the WMP Implementation project was held January 25, 2010. A summary of the presentation and comments/questions is included below.
The UWRBC received a Section 319 grant from the Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) in 2009 to implement the Watershed Management Plan (WMP) that was completed in 2007. The grant was used to promote Best Management Practices (BMPs) and for cost-share to local landowners to voluntarily implement the BMPs on their lands. The funding helped the commission address non-point source (NPS) pollution concerns in the watershed. The program also funded water quality monitoring within the watershed using the Hoosier Riverwatch method. The Hoosier Riverwatch method employs community volunteers, which provides the community with firsthand knowledge of the quality of the river and streams in the project area.
